Innovation in Motion
A software consultancy on a mission to prove that technology and ecology aren't opposites — they're partners.
The name
Novatum fuses two Latin roots: nova (innovation, renewal) and momentum (motion, force). Innovation in Motion — not innovation for its own sake, but purposeful movement toward something better.
The mission
The dream is simple and ambitious in equal measure: travel the world, learn from different cultures and communities, and bring the best eco-friendly ideas back into software. Not just green-washing, but genuinely rethinking how we build, deploy, and maintain digital systems.
Software has an ecological footprint. Data centres consume enormous amounts of energy. Apps become obsolete after two years, discarding perfectly functional hardware. The industry has normalised waste and complexity at a scale most people don't see. Novatum exists to push back against that — one project at a time.
The approach
Two ideas guide every project:
Green IT — software engineered to consume less: less energy, less bandwidth, less hardware. Performance isn't a luxury; it's an environmental responsibility.
Permacomputing — borrowing from permaculture, the goal is to build software that ages well. Designed to be repaired, extended, and handed over. No planned obsolescence. No black boxes. Tools that communities can own.
Who we work with
Community organisations, cooperatives, small businesses, and solo founders who care about their impact. People building things that matter — not just things that scale.
If your project puts people and planet before profit, we're probably a good fit.
The best way to predict the future is to build it — but let's build one worth living in.
What we believe
Technology serves people
Not the other way around. Tools should empower, not create dependency.
Longevity over growth
Software that lasts a decade beats software that crashes in two years and leaves nothing behind.
Open by default
Communities deserve to own and understand the tools they rely on.
Learn from everywhere
The best ideas don't come from Silicon Valley. They come from everywhere.
